What you'll see

Dartford warbler is reliable along the heathland trails year-round; warmer days produce best views. Nightjar churrs from dusk May-July (organised evening walks bookable). Hobby is regular over the heath in summer hunting dragonflies. Stone-curlew (rare) used to breed here; check current status. Spring brings woodlark song-flight.

Winter: Shipstal Beach gives Poole Harbour views — avocets, Brent geese, occasional spoonbill, plus regular peregrine + winter raptors over the heath.
